Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on the world’s largest children’s hospital, destroying departments and endangering the lives of children and medical staff
Today, on the morning of July 8, Kyiv woke up to the sounds of sirens and explosions. Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on the capital, another evidence of the terrible aggression against the civilian population. This time, the target of the attack was the world’s largest children’s hospital, «Okhmatdyt», – Nataliya Shevchuk, head of the Foundation for the «Memory of His Beatitude Metropolitan Methodius, reacted to another crime committed by Putin’s terrorists».

The Russian occupiers hit the hospital, which had been a symbol of hope for many Ukrainian families. Children receiving treatment for severe illnesses were trapped under the rubble of the destroyed building. The dialysis department, oncology department, intensive care unit, and operating rooms were particularly affected. The doctors and hospital staff had to quickly evacuate the patients, risking their own lives.

A bunch of children with oncology, connected to machines, go to an unknown place after the shelling, and this is all in the center of the European capital
Eyewitness testimonies and information from doctors are shocking and outrageous. Olga Bohomolets, a well-known doctor and public figure, stated: «In Kyiv, a new building of the children’s hospital ‘Okhmatdyt’ was damaged by an enemy missile. A hospital that we had been building for so long and so hard for Ukrainian children. Working in the hospital all my life, you get used to being safe, that a medical institution cannot be a target for shelling, as it contradicts all international agreements… But unfortunately, those agreements and conventions are empty words for our enemy».
«Okhmatdyt» was not just a hospital; it was an island of hope for thousands of families fighting their children’s severe illnesses. A strike on such a place is not only an attack on infrastructure but also a blow to the heart of the entire country. Everyone who has ever been within the walls of this hospital knows the immense work doctors and medical staff did to save children’s lives.
The acting director of «Okhmatdyt» noted: «This missile strike is a huge loss for the entire country. It will take a lot of time and resources to restore the hospital and return it to normal functioning».
The society is in a state of deep shock. People who survived this tragedy are calling on the international community not to leave Ukraine alone with such a terrible aggressor. Famous public figures, politicians, and ordinary citizens express their outrage and call for decisive action against Russian terror.
We condemn this terrible crime committed against children who were in operating rooms and hospital wards. This barbarism has no right to exist in the civilized world. The Hague must investigate this act of aggression, and everyone involved in this atrocity must be severely punished. Divine retribution will inevitably catch up with those who do evil against the innocent.
Ordinary bloody rashism. It would be highly desirable for as many people in Europe and around the world as possible to see the footage of the destroyed children’s hospital. Especially those politicians and public figures who are still deluded by the idea of «controlled escalation» and call for negotiations. You don’t negotiate with a serial maniac. You can only stop him. And if our partners do not want the Russian Federation to bring similar horror to their cities, they have the opportunity to stop the aggressor here and now. It’s a matter of will.
The missile attack on «Okhmatdyt» has caused a wave of outrage worldwide. Leaders of countries and international organizations expressed their condolences and called for decisive action against Russia. The society understands that this tragedy is not just another terrible incident but part of a large-scale war that Russia is waging against Ukraine.
We need to focus on creating an environment that supports, inspires, and helps restore human values. This is extremely important for our future and the health of each of us. We must act and change the situation now, not allowing tragedies to become common occurrences.
The tragedy at «Okhmatdyt» is a terrible example of how Russian aggression continues to destroy peaceful lives and hopes. This event should become a cry of despair heard by the whole world and a stimulus for action against terror. We cannot allow such horrors to become routine. Each of us is obliged to do everything possible to stop this cruelty and ensure a peaceful future for our children.
The head of the NGO «Memorial Foundation of His Beatitude Metropolitan Methodius» Nataliya Shevchuk expresses her condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims and the dead and asks for prayers to survive this terrible time of the destruction of the Ukrainian people…
